Macon Patton is May's Betty J. Lewis Unsung Hero!

Macon Patton was born and raised in Camden, Arkansas, to the late Shady and Mary Patton. He is the fifth of seven children, Shirley, Shady Jr, Cynthia, Ricky, Donald, and Ronald. He graduated from Fairview High School. He is married to Nancy Ann Neal Patton and has six daughters Chamelle Patton Rabion, Michelle Patton Parker, Tawanna Andrews, LaChasity Smith, Ashley Coleman, and Eboney Andrews. From these six daughters, he has fourteen grandchildren. “Life is just better with grandchildren” is one of his favorite sayings.

Macon was the only one of his siblings who did not receive a college or technical degree. He wanted to join the Army, but his mother said NO! He grew up in a time when you obeyed your parents. She insisted that he go to college, he spent one year at Henderson State University. Macon returned to Camden and worked at Celotex briefly and then went to International Paper Company, where he worked for Twenty-Three years until its closing. Macon then started working for the Camden Housing Authority as a maintenance worker for fifteen years. He then joined the Southern Arkansas University Tech family as a custodial and grounds supervisor for five and a half years until his retirement in February 2023.

Macon loves giving back to the community. In 2004 he was elected to the Camden Fairview School Board. He served as secretary for many years, and as of April 2024, he was elected by the board to the position of President. He has served on several boards and organizations, to name a few: the Board of Directors for the United Way/United Fund where they oversaw funds distributed to non-profit organizations in Ouachita County. The Christian Health Center Board for 6 years. The Habitat for Humanity board and the FEMA Board. Macon loved volunteering at the Daffodil festival as a van driver, He served on the Board of directors for the Ouachita Child Enrichment Centers for 6 years, left the organization for several years (but still volunteered for their Fishing derby) and as of June 2024, he was re-elected to the board.

Macon accepted the call into ministry and received his License on December 10, 2000, under the leadership of Rev. James E. Johnson and the Mt. Gillard Missionary Baptist Church. He was called as pastor to the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Hampton, Arkansas in 2007, he has been there now for seventeen years. The church is part of the Consolidated Missionary Baptist State Convention of Arkansas Inc. which includes Ouachita District Association. Macon served as President of Section 3 for many years.
