Ray Green is December's Betty J. Lewis Unsung Hero!
Ray Green, a 1971 graduate of Eudora High School, has spent over five decades committed to his profession, family, and faith. Shortly after high school, Ray enrolled at Southwest Technical Institute (SAU Tech), where he earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electronics in August of 1973. He began his career as a Test Technician with Stromberg Carlson in East Camden, AR, focusing on telephone repairs. In May 1974, Ray married Shelva McElroy, with whom he shares two daughters, Lateesha and Marquita, as well as a nephew, Steven, whom they lovingly welcomed as their own after the passing of Steven's mother in 1993. Ray and Shelva are proud grandparents to Tena and Londyn.
Ray dedicated 20 years to Stromberg Carlson, later General Dynamics, and Hughes missile, working as a technician, Test Engineer, and computer/Test Station programmer. His role took him across the country, establishing test stations in Tucson, AZ; Pomona, CA; San Diego, CA; Tijuana, Mexico; and Farmington, NM. During this time, he also earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from SAU Magnolia in 1990.
Ray's entrepreneurial spirit led him to open his own repair business, A & G TV Repair (layer Ray's TV Shop), in Camden, which he ran from 1980 until his retirement in 2022. With over 2,000 hours of specialized training on brands such as Samsung, LG/Zenith, Magnavox, GE/RCA, Panasonic, and Sony, Ray became a trusted small business owner in the community.
Beyond his career, Ray has been an active member of Whitest Chapel Baptist Church since 1985, where he serves as a Deacon, assistant Sunday School teacher, brotherhood teacher, financial chairman/treasurer, and advisor to the ushers. He also serves as financial chairman for the Ouachita District Association Section 3 in Camden.
Ray extends special thanks to the staff of SAU Tech and the Betty J. Lewis Committee for recognizing him as an Unsung Hero. "May God continue to bless each of you!" he adds in gratitude for this honor.
