Meet the Chancellor
The Office of the Chancellor at Southern Arkansas University Tech provides executive leadership, strategic planning, and institutional oversight. Committed to advancing SAU Tech’s mission, the Chancellor guides the college in promoting academic excellence, operational efficiency, and student success in partnership with faculty, staff, and the broader community.

Chancellor Jerry W. Thomas
Dr. Jerry W. Thomas was appointed Chancellor of Southern Arkansas University Tech on January 10, 2024, bringing over 30 years of leadership experience in higher education. Before joining SAU Tech, he served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at National Park College and held senior leadership roles at Thomas Edison State University and Southern Arkansas University. A champion for student success and institutional growth, Dr. Thomas has led strategic initiatives at SAU Tech that strengthened academic programs, expanded student support services, and increased enrollment. Under his leadership, new career and technical programs aligned with aerospace, defense, and advanced manufacturing workforce needs have launched. A U.S. Army veteran and committed educator, he holds degrees in history and education and is dedicated to access, equity, and innovation in higher education, positioning SAU Tech as a hub for academic excellence, workforce development, and community engagement.
Areas of Responsibility
Institutional Leadership
The Chancellor is responsible for overseeing all college functions, ensuring alignment with SAU Tech’s strategic vision. This includes academic affairs, workforce and technical education, enrollment services, student support, facilities management, and community outreach.
Research Oversight
The Chancellor’s Office ensures that all research activities conducted under the university’s auspices meet ethical, legal, and institutional standards. This includes compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as university and sponsor guidelines. The office fosters a responsible research environment by providing oversight, resources, and support to faculty and staff.
Conflict of Interest Management
The Chancellor’s Office helps ensure that university leadership upholds high standards of ethics and transparency. This includes addressing potential conflicts of interest in accordance with institutional policies and applicable regulations.
