Arkansas  Environmental Training Academy

The Arkansas Environmental Training Academy is the designated Environmental Training Center for the State of Arkansas and is a training division of Southern Arkansas University Tech in Camden, Arkansas.

The Academy has a statewide mission to provide quality training and educational programs to aid the management and operating staff of municipal, commercial and industrial facilities in meeting state and federal licensing and certification requirements.

Within our resources, the Academy accomplishes its mission through comprehensive certification and continuing education programs, statewide technical assistance programs, administrative and student services, and professional development for faculty and staff.

Divisions Of Environmental Training

SAU Tech is proud to host specialized training through the Arkansas Environmental Training Academy (AETA), offering professional development for critical roles in environmental services across the state. The Backflow Division focuses on the prevention and control of cross-connections in water systems, while the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) training supports workplace safety, compliance, and hazard management. Through the Solid Waste Division, professionals gain the knowledge to manage, transport, and dispose of waste responsibly. The Wastewater and Water Divisions provide essential certification and continuing education for operators who manage public water systems and wastewater treatment facilities.

Funding for the Academy’s statewide training programs is provided by the Arkansas State Legislature, Arkansas Department of Higher Education, industrial contracts, and student registration fees. The Academy offers training on the Southern Arkansas University Tech campus in Camden, Arkansas, at training sites statewide and by Internet delivery.


  • BACKFLOW DIVISION

    Backflow Prevention Certification training provided by the Arkansas Environmental Training Academy is endorsed and approved by the Arkansas Department of Health, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, Louisiana State Plumbing Board, and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The Academy offers Backflow courses on-campus, at locations statewide, and on the Internet.

  • ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY (EHS)

    The Arkansas Environmental Training Academy Environmental Health and Safety classes are designed for hazardous material workers, shippers, TSD facility operators, and hazmat responders. The Academy’s EHS staff is authorized by the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), United States Department of Transportation (US DOT), Hazardous Materials Training Research Institute (HMTRI), Partnership for Environmental Technology Education (PETE), and the Community College Consortium for Health & Safety Training (CCCHST) to provide EHS training statewide.

  • SOLID WASTE DIVISION

    The Arkansas Environmental Training Academy provides training for Solid Waste licensing and license renewal as required by Arkansas Regulation 27 for all municipal and industrial solid waste operators in the State of Arkansas. Solid Waste training provided by the Arkansas Environmental Training Academy is endorsed by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality Solid Waste Division and the Arkansas Solid Waste Licensing Committee. The Academy offers Solid Waste certification and update courses on-campus, at various locations statewide, and on the Internet.

  • WASTE WATER DIVISION

    The Arkansas Environmental Training Academy provides training for Wastewater licensing and licenses renewal as required by Arkansas Regulation 3 for all municipal and industrial wastewater operators in the State of Arkansas. Wastewater training provided by the Academy is endorsed by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality Water Division and the Arkansas Wastewater Licensing Committee. The Academy offers wastewater certification and 12-training hour specialty courses for license renewal courses on-campus, at various locations statewide, and on the Internet.

  • WATER DIVISION

    The Arkansas Environmental Training Academy provides training for Water licensing and licenses renewal as required by the Arkansas Department of Health for water operators in the State of Arkansas. Water training provided by the Academy is endorsed by the Arkansas Department of Health Engineering Section and the Arkansas Drinking Water Advisory and Water Operator Licensing Committee. The Academy offers water certification and 12-training hour specialty courses for license renewal on-campus, at various locations statewide, and on the Internet.
